If I could iMessage them while in my room on my laptop, then we could coordinate to have them power up and hop in front of the MacBook at home, then I could use FaceTime 1.0.2 to chat with them. I use iChat sometimes to video chat with my wife and kids, but they aren't always on the MacBook at the house. I found a place to download iMessage for Mac, but after a 45+ minute download, it turned out to require 10.7 or later.
Is there a version of iMessage that I can install on my MacBook Pro to replace iChat and then be able to iMessage my friends and family on their iOS devices (the folks I am messaging all have iPhone 4S or newer). When I am in my room, I do have wired internet that I pay for through an ISP called sniperhill. I always have my iPhone with me for taking pictures, and there are a few hotspots near the USO area where I can access the wifi and use iMessage with friends and family back in the world, email, Facebook, etc.
I am currently deployed to Afghanistan (p.s. my logic of course in not good for sales of existing computers.I am on a MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo, with 4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM, running OS 10.6.8. I am hoping to just not have to do so until next spring when generation 2 of the new mac pro comes out and just tide by until then. Communication downloads - Telegram by viko and many more programs are available for instant and free download.
it was a completely unnecessary thing to not include support for as you can still boot your mac in 32 bit mode and run 32 bit apps in even 10.9 and most of the computers it affects are still faster then the fastest new macbook air and most of them many times faster than the new macbook pros and some very close to performance of even the new mac pros.to add the 32bit efi support to 10.8 or 10.9 would just have required apple to release a simple firmware update, which is not asking much as some of the affected computers cost $5k new 3.5 years prior and some were still being sold new at the time, or the installer could have selected what to install on a particular mac or just installed them both. Download telegram for mac 10.6.8 for free. FaceTime is available for Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) and can then FaceTime to those iOS. It is no only available with the Messages app in Mountain Lion. this is the source of a lot of my apple anti-toxic-landfill anger. iMessages is the service run by Apple that basically started with the iOS devices and was a beta for a time in Lion (OS X 10.7) which also was date limited and ended on the 14th December 2012. anyway, i have to install a hack that emulates the 64bit efi which would have zero effect on performance after booted.
I can run 10.8 and 10.9 on all my macs except the duo core one, though one that is 64 bit has a 32bit smc/efi, which is lame because the efi just manages the power/fans and helps the boot up. so i am not sure why it is set that way unless it is a pre-warning of things to come as when it is for 10.9 and up, that will mean it may no longer run on previous systems since 10.9 has a core audio update. same core, just the addition of game center and notifications that of course k10 does not access. pretty much if it runs on 10.8, it will run on 10.7.
it may require one to install k9u first since and then install the kontakt libs and reaktor ensemble manually and then download the undaters one will have to do anyway., which is easy if you have a supported mac to install in first then you can just copy everything before you authorize it.
